7 Back to School Scriptures to Declare Over Your Children

Aug 2, 2018

The summer is slowly coming to an end and for many of us, school has begun! Parents, there will be more food in the pantry, your water and electricity bill will be lower, and the house will be quiet…during the day, at least! Although the start of the new school year is always exciting, after dropping my boys off for there first day, I walked away feeling a little somber. Why? I realized, I am now officially the mom to all “Elementary-aged boys”. No more infants, no more toddlers, no more pre-schoolers, just Big Boys! There is no turning back! I am now starting to understand why our elders would always say, “Enjoy them while they are young because they grow up so fast.” Today, I came to that realization. They do indeed grow up fast! Although I will not miss dropping and picking kids up at multiple school/day care locations, I am sure I will miss the days of helping them learn their ABCs and shapes. So, if you are like me and have that nervous excitement as the school year begins, try to remember we have to enjoy them now, even in the exhausting days or “they are getting on my last nerves” days (and I had many of them these last few weeks). Know that it is our responsibility to enjoy them and train them. Each year start of the year, we declare some scriptures over our boys’ lives and have conversations about it so they will know who they are, what they have and what is expected of them. Our children are gifts from God and they are little people in training. Speak the Word over their lives so that they will grow up to know what they possess and have access to. Here are a seven scriptures we declare over our boys not just on the first day of school, but all throughout the year.

#1 Be an Example!

Do not let anyone look down on you because of your youth, but be an example in speech, conduct, faith, love, and purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

#2 Don’t fear!

God has not given you the spirit of fear, but power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

#3 You can do it!

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Philippians 4:13

#4 Walk in Favor!

You will grow in wisdom and stature and will obtain favor from both God and man. 1 Samuel 2:26

#5 Use your Gifts!

Your gifts will make room for you and bring you before kings and not before unknown men. Proverbs 18:16

#6 You are Protected!

No harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your home. For He will command his angels to keep you in all your ways. Psalms 91:10-11

#7 Obedience leads to Success!

“…Be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Joshua 1:8   Not only does speaking the Word over our kids lives remind them of His promises concerning them, but it reminds us, as parents, that God has our kids covered. So, on the days when we begin to have that nervous excitement or fear creeps in, know that God is with them. He has a plan for their lives and all we have to do is enjoy these years and “train them up in the way they should go and when they get old, they will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Happy Back to School Day! I pray this year is the best school year ever, not just for our children, but for teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and all those who play a role in our kids’ lives.
